Response
After sitting through the poy session I realized how quickly images are canned. But also, I noticed how photographs must either capture extreme emotion or have great impact to be given more than one second of deliberation. This was somewhat expected, as I learned through judging the regional magazines, but it was interesting to see what each judge deemed to be worthy of awards. After all, photography as in any art form is extremely subjective and very personal, so although it can be agreed upon that some photos stand out versus others, photos are generally difficult to judge based on certain criteria. I found it interesting that some photos, even if one or two judges felt strongly about it, might not place at all, whereas some photos that none seemed quite as passionate about would place because of the general acceptance of being a nice shot. Overall, I just enjoyed watching the whole deliberation and judgment process and, of course, loved looking at all of the wonderful photography!
